So tomorrow is the beginning of a new month, and God laid something important on my heart. In the midst of elections, a spat of illnesses, truths coming to light, and time ever drawing closer to the return of Jesus, I can’t help but notice that most of the airtime used to display the character of many, is often filled with despair, discouragement, and self-glorification. Embarrassment follows many of our fellow followers of Jesus at the utterance of their preferred presidential candidate, because honestly, both highly publicized candidates possess a long list of undesirable and unattractive political qualities. So much so, sometimes I feel as though their convictions far outweigh their positive attributes. I wonder if many of the other elections were this tense.
But I didn’t come here today to get political or put in my two cents on the election that will take place in a few days. I came to share some important encouragement that will prove beneficial whether or not there’s an election going on.
Somewhere at the beginning of 2015, I came across a resource that changed my life forever. I’ve honestly only used this resource once (when I found it), but it can be used many times in life if one chooses to do so. It is called the Soul Detox.
It’s a Monday. I know.
I’m not sure where I got the paper/framework from, but it proved so valuable, no matter how hard it was to sit down and present before the Lord. Much like my political opinions during this election, we all have “stuff” or sins, or problems that we push down, way deep, because it seems like we just can’t shake it. That problem you’ve had since you were a teenager still threatens to rear it’s ugly head at the worst possible moment for us. That evil spirit that tries to come back and take up residence in you often comes strolling by, reaching out a hand to knock on your heart. And other times, it all builds up so much that you can’t keep track of what’s eating you (or trying to…).
The purpose of this Soul Detox sheet is to lay out your darkest parts of yourself and your hardest sins before the Lord as an offering of repentance. You’ll notice that many of the adjectives listed are ones such as “hidden”, “buried”, or “secret”. This is not easy. It is also very private. The download below has no recorded data attached to it at all. As the creator and sharer, there is no way for me to see who downloads it or who accesses it. This is for good reason. While I was completing, rebuking Satan, and praying over this sheet, the Enemy knew it and came hard at me in the 30/45 minutes that I completed this. God fought for me. I felt chains, spirits, and bondages fall away in the midst of this paper. Not because the paper itself is powerful, but because the Word of God is powerful.
When you are done praying, rebuking, repenting, and praising the Lord, do whatever you want with the paper. Mine was in my journal and I just left it there. In hindsight, those sins I laid out on paper were no worse than any others I’ve seen. Sins are all the same to the Lord and when we lay them before Him, he takes them away all the same and we are all clean and redeemed. Throw them away if you want. Rip them up, keep them, do whatever you want. I am so proud of you. I pray that God will bless you in your heart like His and that blessings will overflow for you. I also encourage you to ask God what to do next. Sometimes, there’s an action that needs to be done so you can continue to walk in Love with God. Maybe an apology needs to happen. Perhaps disposal of a kind of material.
This is not behavior modification. Behavior modification happens without God. It happens when a person thinks that we have to behave a certain way in order to reach a desired result. Walking in Love means that you’ve received something, so you act upon it. See the reverse qualities there? You don’t lay out dog food and expect to get a dog just because you act like you have a dog. You get a dog, THEN you do the necessary actions, because, well, you have a dog. In the same way, apologizing to, say, your spouse for an unfaithful action and hoping for restoration is what you’ll find in mainstream marriage help books. Action leads to restoration by self. That’s the complete opposite of what scripture says. Faith without works is dead. (James 2:14-26) And in the same way, works without faith are pointless.
May you be blessed by this resource and find it useful in the coming days. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says,
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
